So, about that iPhone 5.
I am always being asked by those that I know about the iPhone 5. I could always give them specs and predicted release dates, but the only thing I was ever able to say about the design was “Well, it’ll be thinner than the 4.”
Now, finally, news on the design! First, let’s start with Well, it’ll be thinner than the 4! The phone will also now have a larger, 4 inch screen. I did not think this would happen. I am quite happy with my 3.5 inch device. This leaves me with a new question about the screen, what will happen to our retina resolution? One of two things: we will keep the 960x640 resolution bringing the PPI below 326. But that is not something Apple would do. I believe we will maintain 320+ PPI, as the phone is known for it, and bring up the total resolution of the phone. This theory is supported by a patent Apple has taken out for a nearly bezel free front of a phone that extends to be able to support 1080p video play back. This would be a huge step up from our 640 pixel limit currently in place, which in the real world translates to 480p YouTube videos.
Moving on to that dreadful home button… I’ve played around with iOS 5 on my iPhone 4 for nearly two months. My home button is broken. I have found that the new user interface (which remains nearly unchanged visually) makes it much easier to get to notifications in different locations on the phone. The button-less dream Mr. Jobs had for the iPhone is looking promising. The iPhone 5 appears to have an oval shaped capacitive home button. It looks large enough to detect two finger swipe motions possibly? Or maybe one finger swipe motions for the multitasking system they currently have in place. As long as it is capacitive, I am happy with it.
A noticeable feature the iPhone 4 had, of course, was it’s squared off shape. Well Apple is going back to rounded. Apple recently purchased hundreds of glass cutting machines more advanced than the ones usually found in a manufacturer’s factories. Much more expensive as well. After hearing this the rumors went wild with ideas of an iPhone rounded at the screen. I laughed at this idea and need gave it any credibility. An iPhone 5 prototype was spotted in the hands of an Apple employee today in San Francisco (supposedly). The back was rounded off and reported to be glass or plastic. Are you putting 2 and 2 together yet? 2+2= Apple bought those glass cutting machines to manufacture the backs of their new iPhones.
I’m sure you would love to see this iPhone 5 prototype so here you go: http://trap.it/bcaVFP
Quick hardware rundown:
Commonly believed to house a 1.3~1.5GHz dual core a5 chip.
1500 mili amp lithium polymer battery.
8MP rear facing camera with dual LED flash full 1080p video shooting.
No real upgrades for the front facing but I have all my fingers crossed for it to be bumped up to two MP.
There have been a number of rumors circulating that the memory standards for the iPhone 5 will be like those of iPods: 16/32/64. I’m hoping for it.
3.5mm headset jack, 30 pin connector, lock button, and of course volume rockers that will now serve and a camera shutter switch as well.
I know I’ve been talking about wireless charging and solar panels, it’s clear to me by the new case designs on the iPhone 5 that those patents were taken out for the iPhone 6.
Feel free, no, Obliged! To ask me for anything I missed or just questions.
